DSTI Brings Holiday Cheer to Local Families

For most, the holiday season is filled with joyful family get-togethers, the smell of freshly baked cookies, and ugly sweaters. But for those undergoing financial hardship, it can be a difficult time.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - December 22, 2016 - For most, the holiday season is filled with joyful family get-togethers, the smell of freshly baked cookies, and ugly sweaters. But for those undergoing financial hardship, it can be a difficult time.

To help spread holiday cheer to those in need, DSTI organized a November food drive to benefit the North Anoka County Emergency Foodshelf (NACE), resulting in 2,800 pounds of food and clothing donations.

"Our holiday food drive is a great representation of the generosity of DSTI employees," said Patrick Parker, General Manager of DSTI.

The demand is up this year. "We've seen a 77% increase in people seeking crisis help," said NACE Food Shelf Executive Director Annabelle Budde. "Donations from companies like DSTI are instrumental in providing food and clothing for families in our community."

In addition to the food drive, hundreds of less fortunate children will wake up Christmas morning with a new toy under their tree.

In December, leading up to the holidays, DSTI employees volunteered their weekend time and collected nearly 1,400 new toys donated by community members in support of the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots drive.

"This isn't just a holiday tradition for us. Giving back is a fundamental part of our culture and I'm proud to see the continued success of employee-organized community events like this," added Parker.
